More socializing. Meh.

I haven't yet responded to everyone's nice comments to my last post, but I have a potluck emergency question for you guys.  We're going to yet another one, and I am charged with bringing a dip. Some other creep already called hummus (never take a vegan's go-to, dammit), and I'm debating between these two options: red pepper "cheeze" or black pepper "cheeze" Any of you badasses ever made one of these? Got another stand-by I should consider? I'm half tempted to bring my hummus anyhow. Another "never" is not to try to go head-to-head with vegan on hummus because we will hand your ass to you. Pardon my Fronch.

  1. Guacamole always works! Orrrr....i dunnoo.....an easy french onion dip with the lipton french onion package mixed with Tofutti Cream Cheese :)

  2. So funny. I've never tried either of those, but they sound good to me! If you're too stressed, you can always take salsa! :)

  3. Or Tofutti Sour Cream mixed with Vegetable Soup Mix.

  4. What about a bean dip or baba ghanouj?

  5. Both the "cheezes" sound good...for vegans. My experience is that unless they're pretty open-minded, omnis are kind of squicked out by vegan cheese-type stuff (even after you tell them it's mostly just cashews; go figure). I'm with Rose on the baba ghanouj...although that sour cream and vegetable soup mix thing is also strangely appealing.

Or, heck, just mix anything in with some veganaise and you're good to go.

  6. These are all great suggestions, thanks! I'm leaning toward bean dip, though, as Tofutti products require a trip across town.
Zoa, I doubt you'll navigate back here, but do people think that calling a vegan "cheeze" a nut spread instead negates the "wig out" factor? that red pepper one is REALLY calling my name.
    I'm setting myself up for disappointment, aren't I :)?

  7. I did navigate back, so there! And yes, I quite like your idea of the nut spread!! Which is essentially what it is, too...

  8. Okay, I'm gonna try this "re-branding" experiment. It'll be just like when the powerful prune lobby tried to rename their product "dried plums"! Remember how well that worked? Me neither!!!!
